My name is John Morgan — a disabled veteran, full-time dad, gear nerd, and proud founder of The Sharpening Dude. What started as a one-man operation in my backyard shed has grown into one of the most trusted skate services in the DMV. I didn’t get here with big funding or fancy gear — just hard work, grit, and a love for the game.

I didn’t grow up dreaming of running a skate shop. I served in the military, built a career in IT, and somewhere along the way, I became a hockey dad. That’s where everything changed. Watching my son fall in love with the game made me fall back in love with it too — only this time, from the edges up.

What began with sharpening a few skates for local kids turned into a steady grind (literally). I obsessed over edges, studied the art of profiling, and built a shop that focuses on one thing: performance. Every skate that comes through my hands matters — whether it belongs to a 6U beginner, a beer leaguer, or a AAA forward with dreams of the show.

I don’t just want to sharpen skates — I want to elevate your game. That’s why I back every pair I touch with precision, education, and accountability. I’m also a proud board member of the Seek First Foundation, helping give every athlete a shot at greatness, no matter their background.
